Microsoft’s Dewain Robinson Unveils Next Evolution of Copilot Studio and Enterprise AI Agents

Over 230,000 organizations are leveraging Copilot Studio, demonstrating the momentum of the application. At Community Summit North America 2025, Dewain Robinson, Principal Copilot Studio Solution Architect, Microsoft, outlined the next evolution of Copilot Studio and agentic AI during the AI Agent & Copilot and Power Platform Product Roadmap session, covering how the latest releases to Copilot Studio are designed to:
- Make information workers more productive
- Transform enterprise business processes
- Enable the creation of custom AI solutions
Increasing Information Workers Productivity
To make information workers more productive, Microsoft is expanding the alignment between M365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot Studio (MCS) through new capabilities designed to streamline workflows. The latest UX enhancements simplify how users create, edit, and share copilots, while knowledge recommendations automatically surface relevant data to enrich agent responses.
Further enhancements like Direct File Upload allow users to instantly scan documents by dragging and dropping them into Copilot Studio, and Office Entity Knowledge extends Copilot’s understanding across Outlook, Teams, and calendar data.
Robinson also noted improvements to SharePoint Knowledge, creating a stronger retrieval across internal libraries, and the introduction of Public Web Scoping for contextual grounding.
Business Process Transformation
Expanding Knowledge and Control
Copilot Studio now supports additional knowledge types, with continued development to come. These new sources enhance retrieval and reasoning over business content, grounding Copilots in richer, more diverse data.

Now, users also gain “fine-grained control” over RAG patterns, enabling them to adjust summarization, search, moderation, and conversational feedback to better align with internal compliance.
AI and Automation Enhancements
Robinson highlighted a wave of innovations built to make Copilots more capable and autonomous, such as:
- Computer Use: Enables copilots to interact with external systems through UI automation
- Agent Flows: Allows Power Automate flows to run on Copilot credits (replacing “message packs” with Copilot credit packs)
- Prompt Builder: Replacing AI Builder, fully integrated into MCS
- Model Context Protocol (MCP): Standardizes how AI models connect to tools, data sources, and environments
- Code Interpreter & Code Generator: Power advanced data analysis and automated actions through Python execution and code generation
- Bring Your Own Model: Enterprises can integrate proprietary or fine-tuned models for customized, scalable intelligence

Smarter, Autonomous Agents
Autonomous Agents are now generally available, with new templates and deep reasoning capabilities that allow agents to analyze scenarios, make decisions, and include humans in the loop.
Enhanced Channels and Testing
Requested features like Publish to SharePoint, first-party WhatsApp support, and publishing custom agents directly into M365 Copilot are now available. Testing and debugging have also advanced with AI-generated evaluation sets, activity map insights, and visibility into test results.
Next-Generation Analytics
The new analytics dashboard gives better visibility into Copilot’s performance, covering consumption metrics, ROI analysis, and response quality. Integrations with Viva Insights demonstrate business impact, and visualizations reveal agent usage, accuracy, and cost forecasts.
Robinson emphasized, to which attendees were pleased, “The analytics side of Copilot Studio is getting better, better, and better—and it’s only the beginning.”
Custom AI Solutions
In the final segment, Robinson emphasized how Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry are coming together to enable organizations to build highly customized AI solutions. The integration removes roadblocks between the two platforms, allowing developers to extend Copilots with the flexibility of Azure’s AI ecosystem.
Among the latest updates:
- Azure AI Search is now generally available as a knowledge source
- Users will soon have the ability to replace the default model with curated alternatives and industry-specific models within Azure Foundry
- Connect Copilot Studio directly to Azure agents, with the MCS Agent becoming a core component in Azure-based solutions
Stay Connected
With deeper integrations across M365, Power Platform, and Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio is evolving into a unified environment for productivity, automation, and innovation. In closing, Robison encouraged users to stay up to date with the latest Copilot Studio releases and functionality enhancements.
