Embarking on a Tech Journey: From Humanitarian to Microsoft Power Platform
My name is Tafessech Beyene and a mother of two, currently residing in Virginia, United States, with roots tracing back to Ethiopia. My academic journey led me to graduate from Agriculture University with a specialization in Forestry/Environmental Science. For over a decade, I dedicated my efforts to working for a non-profit organization, focusing on aiding disadvantaged communities, and for the past six years, I’ve been deeply involved in supporting refugees fleeing conflict from neighboring countries through the provision of livelihood options and environmental awareness.
The turning point in my life came in November 2017 when I relocated to the United States. This significant move marked a new chapter in my life, prompting me to adapt to a new environment, explore opportunities, and seek employment. During this period of acclimatization, I seized various opportunities to study and enhance my skills, primarily focusing on Microsoft tools using different vendor platforms. In 2022, a friend introduced me to the TechFluent Academy, a non-profit organization committed to providing mentorship and training on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform. This organization is driven by highly qualified volunteers in the technology sector who offer their expertise to participants. Intrigued by the possibilities, I eagerly joined the 2023 cohort.
TechFluent became a pivotal platform in my journey, providing comprehensive training on Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 Suites, accompanied by an invaluable mentorship program. Upon completing the courses, I proudly earned a certificate that symbolizes my dedication and newfound knowledge. Furthermore, I achieved two Microsoft online certifications: Microsoft Power Platform Fundamental (PL-900) and Microsoft Power Platform Functional Consultant (PL-200).
Empowered by the skills and expertise gained through this transformative process, I was honored with a scholarship to participate in Dynamics Communities’ Community Summit North America conference. This experience was a revelation, offering me deep insights into business applications and generative AI. The conference also provided an invaluable opportunity to connect with independent software vendors and industry experts.
In this unexpected yet remarkable journey into the tech realm, I discovered a passion for leveraging technology to drive positive change. From my roots in humanitariainism to navigating the complexities of Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 and Power Platform, each step has been a testament to the transformative power of continuous learning and adapting to new challenges.
As I continue on this exciting path, I look forward to applying my newfound knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions in the technology sector.
