What to Expect From the Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 1

As we gear up for the release of the Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 Release Wave 1, I’m thrilled to share the exciting new features and enhancements Microsoft has been working on. Microsoft released a preview of what’s to come in Wave 1; here’s a closer look at what’s coming our way.

Enhancements to Core Application Functionality

Microsoft has heavily invested in core application features to ensure users have the tools they need to thrive. With this release, you can seamlessly integrate Field Service with service management and view item availability directly in Field Service work orders. Users can analyze subscription billing data using Power BI reports. You will also be able to post foreign currency adjustments to unrealized gain and loss accounts.

Copilot and AI Features

Expanding on Copilot capabilities, Microsoft is introducing innovative ways to boost productivity across small and medium business (SMB) roles. Now, we can chat with Copilot to learn how to use installed add-on apps. Copilot is available to summarize key details, suggest gas emissions in sustainability journals, and enhance purchase order line matching. With the improved AI capabilities, users can benefit from automated sales order-taking through the Sales Order Agent.

Expanding Country and Regional Availability

Microsoft is making Business Central more accessible than ever before. It’s adding support for the Peppol A-NZ format in e-docs for Australia and New Zealand. It has also enabled users to define allowed languages per environment for better localization.

Development Productivity Boosts

Developers, consultants, and citizen developers will find it easier than ever to innovate while keeping costs low. Key features include:

  • Moving tables and fields with data across extensions as part of refactoring
  • Troubleshooting clients, apps, and add-ins using advanced telemetry tools
  • Mocking outbound HttpClient web service calls during testing
  • Viewing build metadata directly in the Extension Management page
  • Embedding Power BI content in the web client with a new page type

E-Commerce Innovations

For businesses using Shopify or handling B2B transactions, Microsoft has introduced new powerful capabilities, such as:

  • Delete incorrect e-documents and avoid duplicates.
  • Activate sales channels in the Shopify Connector.
  • Use e-docs with Power Automate and other API solutions.
  • Send e-documents via a service and email simultaneously.
  • Import and export data using Shopify metafields.
  • Troubleshoot export issues on Shopify Skipped Records pages.
  • Preview and process incoming e-invoices more efficiently.

Governance and Administration

Administrators will love the new tools designed to streamline management tasks. Microsoft has added support for MultiSubnetFailover. You can view app compatibility with future versions in the admin center as well as effortlessly update sandbox environments to preview versions. Additionally, you can automate environment management with the Power Platform connector.

Advanced Reporting and Data Analysis

Insight is everything. Microsoft is giving businesses the tools they need to stay in control. For instance, the company has enhanced analytics for manufacturing processes. It has provided access to report and request metadata in Word layouts and improved financial reporting capabilities.

Supply Chain Management Enhancements

Supply chain managers can look forward to expanded functionalities that streamline operations. Microsoft enhanced customer document layouts for service management. New columns have been added to various pages for deeper insights. Users can block items or variants from production output, streamline product design tools for manufacturing, and manage document attachments more effectively.

Sustainability Management

Sustainability is a growing priority, and Microsoft is enabling businesses to make a positive impact. They can generate CSRD preparation reports, capture sustainability data with general journals, use ESG reporting integrated with Business Central, automate Scope 3 value chain processes for assembly and transfers, and provide carbon equivalent data for sales.

Improved User Experiences

Microsoft refined the user experience to make data entry and error correction more intuitive. Users can preview PDF attachments directly in the web client as well as optimize screen estate usage for better productivity.

Early Access Program

We all can opt into some features as part of early access starting February 3, 2025. This includes mandatory updates and optional enhancements designed to get you up to speed before the full release.

With Business Central 2025 Release Wave 1, Microsoft is taking another big step forward in helping businesses achieve their goals. Whether it’s through AI-powered automation, enhanced reporting, or expanded global availability, this release is all about making your work easier and more impactful. I can’t wait for us to experience it!
