Highlights
00:38 — Microsoft recently announced it will be extending its data residency compatibilities by adding “content of interactions” with Microsoft Copilot into its Microsoft 365 and data residency commitments and offerings. What does “content of interactions” mean? Simply put, when a user interacts with Microsoft Copilot in a Microsoft 365 app, Microsoft stores that data with those interactions and prompts.
01:50 — Additionally, this stored data is used to ground Copilot’s response. Users should know that the stored data is encrypted, and is not used to train Copilot or other LLMs. Furthermore, users can view and manage the store data if they’re an admin within Microsoft 365 in the administration portal.
03:38 — Aaron shares a few details relating to this annoucement:
- Microsoft has updated its Product Terms relating to data residency across multiple countries
- Microsoft updated its Advanced Data Residency (ADR) add-on
- Multi-geo capabilities are updated
- The EU data boundary has been updated to allow European users to keep their data within the EU
05:08 — Finally, as a result of this annoucement, Aaron encourages users to have proper data governance policies in place, and review them periodically. Though the power of Copilot is present, “this is a reminder to keep all your data state protected, and compliant.”
