AI Agent & Copilot Podcast: Innovative Use Cases for AI Agents and Copilot Studio

Microsoft Copilot

In this episode of the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, Shawn Dorward, Vice President, sa.global, UG Expert, shares his list of innovative AI and Copilot use cases, challenging the potential of this technology beyond the day-to-day uses we commonly see.

This episode is sponsored by the AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA, taking place March 17-19, 2025 in San Diego, California.

Key Takeaways

  • Advanced meeting summarization: While Microsoft Teams does provide meeting summarizations, you can take it a step further with Copilot Studio. Once a meeting ends, a transcript becomes available. Copilot Studio can be applied to pull the action items and summarize it in an email while putting a copy into a planner for that team.
  • Expense approval automation: There are existing third parties that will automate expense approvals. Shawn highlights a video by Dwayne Robinson, who will be presenting at the AI Agent & Copilot Summit. The video demonstrated using a PDF of the imaging from floor plans of a cruise ship; if you can use an image in PDF format, perhaps Copilot Studio could process expense receipts for expense approval automation.
  • IT help desk automation: Users could input their challenge, and the agent could look at your organization’s history or existing help desk tickets, note the commonalities, and surface potential solutions there. This could serve as a self-help, initial stop functionality for whoever creates the ticket.
  • Contract review assistance: Copilot could be used to review contracts, compare them to business policies, create contract templates, and identify discrepancies or areas to focus on.
  • Supply chain and inventory management: The supply chain industry has experienced significant disruptions. AI could play a part in predicting inventory shortages and suggesting reorders ahead of shortages, for instance.
  • Financial reporting: Finance professionals often have to provide financial summaries, type out paragraphs of financial notes, and compile reports. Copilot could jump in to simplify this process.
  • HR onboarding: Copilot could aid in various elements of the onboarding process. More specifically, it could contribute to personalizing this process based on the individual applicants’ skills, experiences, and more. It could identify skills gaps and how to revitalize those skills.
  • Scheduling assistance: An agent could make scheduling easier, especially across organizations, by suggesting meeting times.
  • Vendor relationship analysis: An agent could analyze and report on vendor performance, delivery, and other factors. This would help with strategic partnerships and ensure the success of vendor relationships.
  • Smart document indexing: This would involve taking documents that need to be filed in specific places. Rather than someone doing the File > Save As process, Copilot could be prompted to file the document automatically. The more repeatable the task, the better example of how to apply Copilot.
  • AI Agent & Copilot Summit: This event is taking place on March 17th to 19th in San Diego, CA. Join Shawn along with a number of speakers, presenting sessions on how to get the most out of your AI and Copilot usage.
