    Hi Karen,

Is this for an installed ISV? Which version of NAV/BC are you on?

    Thanks!

Welcome! There are 3 areas that allowed me to get as far as I am today. I started as a Director of IT, and now have been working with NAV/BC for over 12 years.

    1) The BC community is a very great community with an amazing group of people who have a ton of skills in this space. Everyone is so great at sharing their knowledge. This is the perfect place to start.

    2) Find mentor that is willing to guide and teach you.

    3) I would also recommend looking into taking the MB-800 exam. You can start walking end to end thru the system by using Microsoft Learn plus a Business Central trial to teach yourself how to navigate each of the functional areas.

Hey there Steve – I am interested. The form attached goes to the All Star nominations. Is there another form to fill out?

I’d wait until after October 1st when BC23 (2023 Wave 2 Release) is live. Microsoft has made some enhancements to the Cloud Migration utility that allow you to see status as well as understand errors better.

You should be able to create a new Sandbox after October 1st on V23 and configure the Cloud Migration Utility again.

My company is in the process of implementing D365 F&SCM (formally F&O), and we elected to use DoCentric as our tool to create our forms and labels. It is very easy to use because all of the design is done in Microsoft Word via Templates and then uploaded to F&SCM. There are also some cool routing options that will help with multi-entity companies, and customer delivery requirements. DoCentric’s support is also very responsive. I don’t think I’ve gone more than 24 hours (except for Holiday’s and weekends) without a response.

The Cloud Migration tool that can migrate data from GP –> BC SaaS relies on the Microsoft Azure Data Factory to organize the data before it is inserted into the BC SaaS environment. It is all connected via your Tenant ID. So there would be no way to directly send data from GP to a Docker container that I am aware of.

A work around would be to upload the data to a trial environment, and then pull a back up of that environment to a .bacpac file via the Business Central Admin Center, and import that .bacpac file into a docker container. There are several blogs out there that have demonstrated this. This method is NOT recommended by Microsoft as Docker is typically used for development, not end user testing.

My strongest recommendation is to have users test in a cloud environment. Unforeseen errors can occur in Docker that you would not be able to get support on, and the experience for your users may be different then them testing right in a Cloud Sandbox.

Nothing like that. There are some time limits. A trial lasts 30 days, after 30 days if you do not convert to a paid license the environment is removed and will need to be re-created. You are able to extend the trial by another 30 days automatically, after 60 days your Microsoft partner will be needed to extend it further.

In reality, you only need 1 license to have a Business Central environment. So, if you purchase just 1 license, to complete this work it may be worth the safety net. You will need to add more users when you are ready to complete testing.
