Dynamics GP Announcement from Microsoft Exemplifies Impact of Community Engagement

During Community Summit North America 2024, held in San Antonio, Texas, numerous customers and partners engaged in organized discussions with Mike Morton, Vice President of Dynamics 365 Business Central & SMB, Microsoft, and other company representatives to express their concerns regarding the September 25, 2024, announcement detailing the timeline for discontinuation of Microsoft support for Dynamics GP.

The announcement from Microsoft on January 15, 2025, makes an adjustment to the timeline for the end of product support and updates for Dynamics GP.

New Date Announced for GP Support and Updates

Instead of September 30th, 2029, updates and support will now conclude on December 31st, 2029.

This might not seem like a significant victory, but for Dynamics GP customers seeking to stay on Dynamics GP close to (or even past) the end date, can now assured they will receive the year-end tax updates for 2029 from Microsoft. These updates include payroll taxes necessary for January 2030, for both the United States and Canada.

What This Means for GP Users

This also implies that there will be a final Dynamics GP release in October 2029, (version 18.12).

The timeline for the end of security updates remains unchanged, and is still scheduled to end April 30th, 2031. That’s still six years away, and by that time, the current version of Dynamics GP 18.12 will only be 18 months old.

So, just to recap, here are the Microsoft timelines as currently defined, potentially subject to change!

  • April 1, 2025: End of new sales for new clients to purchase Microsoft Dynamics GP perpetual licenses. New subscription sales can still occur for one more year.
  • April 1, 2026: End of new sales for new clients to purchase Dynamics GP for both perpetual and subscription licenses.
  • December 31, 2029: End of Microsoft Product Enhancements, Regulatory (tax) updates, Service Packs and Technical Support for Dynamics GP.
  • April 30, 2031: End of Microsoft security patches for Dynamics GP.
