What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: Power BI, Copilot, and More

Microsoft continues to evolve its ERP system to meet the dynamic needs of today’s users. With each release, the company introduces powerful new features and enhances existing capabilities—making Business Central even more efficient, intuitive, and intelligent. In this blog, we’ll highlight some of the latest updates recently showcased in Microsoft’s YouTube series including Power BI reports and Copilot.
Power BI: Now Embedded in Business Central
Accessing your Power BI reports just got a whole lot easier. With the latest update, users can now view and interact with Power BI data directly within Business Central—no need to jump between separate applications. After installing Power BI, users can access reports through Role Centers and Role Explorer. Even better, clicking the question mark icon on a report reveals exactly which data Power BI used to generate it, providing full transparency and insight.
Introducing Copilot for Finance
It’s no secret that switching between applications can seriously disrupt your flow. In fact, research shows that app toggling can cost professionals up to four hours of productivity each week. Enter Copilot for Finance—a game-changer for finance teams. This AI-powered tool delivers the information you need directly within your workflow, reducing the need to constantly switch apps.
A standout feature is the Outlook sidecar, which pulls relevant data from Business Central right into your inbox. Copilot redefines how finance professionals get work done with its combination with upcoming integrations into Teams (as detailed in Microsoft’s release planner).
Smarter Inventory: Item Substitution with Copilot
Running into out-of-stock issues? Microsoft has a solution for that too. The new Item Substitution with Copilot feature uses AI to suggest alternative products when your preferred item isn’t available. This eliminates manual searching and speeds up the inventory management process.
To use it, simply navigate to the item substitution entry and select “Suggest with Copilot.” Instead of scanning through endless product lists, Copilot will recommend the most suitable alternatives—helping you keep orders moving and customers satisfied.
Next Steps
These enhancements show Microsoft’s continued investment in making Business Central smarter, faster, and more user-friendly.
