Advanced Warehousing without Advanced Warehousing: Put-aways

In this video, UG Expert Jason Chance explains how to do Advanced Warehousing in Business Central, without needing to actually turn on Advanced Warehousing. In recent Business Central releases, Microsoft has made it much easier to use the advanced functionalities, even in basic warehouses.

Highlights

00:59 — Jason creates a warehouse location in Elmira, New York, and turns on a few features:

  • Bin Mandatory
  • Require Put-away
  • Require Pick

If you navigate to Bin Policies > Put-away, the default is “Default Bin.” Instead, users should select “Put-away template.” Specify the template, and turn on the “Always create put-away line” feature.

02:07 — Next, Jason reviews the standard Put-away template that comes in Business Central and explains how it works. He notes that the criteria should be listed from most restrictive to least restrictive.

04:21 — For the Elmira warehouse, Jason has three items and notes the Bin Locations and Bin Codes. He reviews the maximum and minimum quantities of each bin.

07:25 — Jason demonstrates how to do a Put-away. He pulls up a purchase order from Wide World Importers which has all three warehouse items in it, with a quantity of 20. He generates the Put-away one of the three items and notes what the system has done.
