The 4 Building Blocks of a Power BI Security Report

In this Community Summit North America 2022 moment, David Laster, Director – Software Solutions (GP/BC/PBI), GraVoc, explains the four building blocks for building an effective Power BI security report.

Highlights

00:14 – The first building block is understanding the data tables and data sources. Power BI must contact the information in order to make it visually understandable. Oftentimes, the information is not packaged in a readable way.

00:46 – All the SQL tables in Power BI are separate. There are many tools and resources in the GP environment that can enable a user to generate different SQL views to understand the data in a more comprehensible way. Laster considers this a “one-stop shop” for data access in a Power BI security report.

01:47 – The third building block is called the security resource descriptions table. This tool is responsible for generating the security report.

02:17 – The fourth – and final – building block is adding Power BI to the equation. Power BI will put all of the data sources in a central location, connect them, and make them visually meaningful.
