We had to rebuild our MR data mart today.  5 hours and 108 million records across 15 companies later we were back in business.  For those of you out there in high transaction volume environments, how does this compare to your experience?  We’re running GP on-prem and just updated to GP 18.4 and MR 2.12.16013.0 a few weeks ago.

For those of you who have replaced MR with something else, what did you move to and has it lived up to your expectations?

Hi Jim,

Five hours is within the reasonable range for a datamart rebuild in my experience – we have 20 companies and 181 million records, also running GP 18.4.1384 on-prem with MR version 2.12.16009.1.  If I perform a reset via Powershell, rather than a full rebuild of the datamart database, it generally fixes everything that a rebuild does and takes less time (averages about two hours) following the instructions published here: https://community.dynamics.com/ax/b/axinthefield/posts/resetting-the-management-reporter-2012-data-mart-with-cu15-via-powershell.

Hi Jim,

I have worked with MR for many years. I see no advantage of using the Data Mart over the Legacy connector. We have all of our customers on the Legacy connector, and have migrated many customers from the Data Mart to the Legacy method. I have not seen any performance advantage on running financials, and the need to rebuild the Data Mart periodically is an administrative headache. If I am missing some feature that makes the Data Mart a better choice, please let me know.

The only time I’ve seen MR take that long is when you don’t reset the change tracking.  Try the option to Reconfigure Change Tracking and see if that speeds up your process.  I have a client with 100+ company databases and the data mart takes less than an hour to be rebuilt.
