I am using a lot the data connector to import data into the D365 system.
Any time I do it I need to Design it adding columns needed

Anyone knows if there is a way to save templates to use in the future avoiding to design it any time?

Thanks in advance for your help

You can start by using the Office integration in D365 within Organization administration module.

      1. Use document templates to create and save customized templates to use for the data import from various forms or pages in D365.

The below links will assist you in answering your questions with some demonstrations:

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks Shilpi Thacur

I coud build the template and browsed into the document templates, I did no override the original one, My intention was to create a new template.

When I go back to the General Journal and open lines in Excel I do not see the one I created.Ā  Am I missing a step there?

You probably want to start wit the Organization Administration> Office Integration> Excel Workbook Designer, select the entity and fields you want to access, and then click “Create Workbook”.Ā  Then you can save your workbook and import it into the list of templates in D365 usingĀ Organization Administration> Office Integration> Document Templates, to make it available to others and potentially on the dropdown list for “Open in Excel” on various pages within D365.Ā
See this page for details on settings you can choose when saving a new template.

Did you upload your designed General Journal template in D365 with a different template name? You have to use the same (LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate) when uploading the new desinged template otherwise, the upload will successed but you won’t be able to make use of document template.

I designed and saved my document template as (LedgerJournalLineTemplate_ST). In my example, it ends with _ST.

Now when you upload the template, delete this suffix and make use of the original template name (‘LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate’).

You can also rename the Template display name as given in the screenshot.

You will be able to see the new designed template when you use MS Office add in – Open in excel from General Journal page

      Hope this helps.

      Hello Shilpi,

My question with this process is if you rename the template to the same ‘LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate’ then it says that the template exists and it overrides the one in the system. it works but I never got the two templates to show under the open in excel.

Sorry I missed demonstrating that the second template is specific to the company or legal entity.
If you do not want to override the default template used across legal entities you can add a separate designed template specific to a company. The Company then defaults on the designed template when using the import/ export functionality from Open to Excel .

I have not had a problem getting my custom templates with their own name to show as an “Open in Excel” option.Ā  Just need to set the flag on the template.Ā  See these instructions:Ā https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/office-integration/office-integration-edit-excel

When will a template show as an Open in Excel option?

When a template listed in theĀ CommonĀ >Ā CommonĀ >Ā Office integrationĀ >Ā Document templatesĀ form (DocuTemplate) has ShowInOpenInOfficeMenu set to Yes and has the same root datasource (table) as the current form, it will be added as an option in the Open in Excel section of the Open in Microsoft Office menu. The following image shows theĀ Document templatesĀ form with two of my custom templates with “List in Open in Office” ticked.
