Your journey will be much easier since the DB is already split! Which in my opinion is the bigger headache…——————————

Hello GG, Merit recently upgraded a couple clients from 2012 RTM or R2 to R3. Off the top of my head I remember one issue that we faced that you may run into that I can hopefully save you some time with.
Part of R2 I believe is the introduction of Personnel functionality in HR. If you do not change anything after the upgrade you will not be able to add a new worker for example, because some new Personnel functionality becomes required (Personnel action type).
Your options are to implement the Personnel functionality, or if you just want to keep what you had in R1 you can chose to disable the new (optional) Personnel settings. See attached screenshot.
This is also described in a white paper but basically it is just this setting (followed by resynchronizing the application).
I will let you know as I remember any other fun adventures we faced in this specific type of upgrade. Thanks,

Afternoon Fellow Upgraders!
We did a few FP RTM to R3 updates, and some of the biggest gottchas are below:- Take VM snapshots before database split and 1st AOS start, these two points in time are “no going back afterwards”…
- Delete any & all previous upgrade models from all layers of the environment…
- Uninstall ALL components EXCEPT the AOS, leaving Setup Support files for last…
- Verify ANY modifications to the core system classes (Application, Global, Info, SysSetupForm, and Session) are removed from the system…
- Disable change tracking in SQL and remove Management Reporter.
If you make sure the above are taken care of, you should be in a much better place to have things go smoothly the first time through.
CHEERS,

Thank you, Jeff and Justin, for your comments. I will check out the worker functionality per Jeff’s comment and will forward Justin’s to our DBA. He’s likely doing these things already…I’ll reference this information in my blog too!
