Business Central Quality Management Updates That Keep Inspections Moving

When inspections stall, the rest of the operation feels it. Inventory waits in receiving, production teams hold for results, and supervisors spend their day tracking down who owns each open inspection. Microsoft added native inspection tools to Business Central earlier this year, and the version 29 update makes those tools fit more smoothly into daily warehouse and production work. Here is a look at what changed in Business Central Quality Management.
Automatic Quantities at Close-Out
Inspectors no longer need to enter passed and failed quantities as a separate step at the end of an inspection. Business Central now records those figures automatically when the inspection is completed, which removes a common source of entry errors. Consistent quantities also give quality managers more reliable data when reviewing trends by item, vendor, or production line. The change is part of Microsoftās broader effort to reduce manual inspection work.
Self-Assignment for Open Inspections
An inspection with no owner can hold up inventory longer than anyone realizes. With this update, a user who opens an unassigned inspection can take ownership of it right away. Supervisors can see more clearly who is handling each item in the queue, which helps most when teams share work across shifts. For background on how inspections are generated and templated, see our earlier look at the Business Central Quality Module.
Bin Selection and Clickable Posting Errors
After an inspection, goods typically go back to stock, into quarantine, or to a return area. Users can now choose the destination bin when moving inspected inventory, so system locations stay in line with where items physically go. When an inspection blocks a posting, the error message now opens the related inspection directly. Warehouse and production staff no longer have to search through records to find out what is holding up a transaction.
Getting Ready for Version 29
These enhancements are available in update 29.0, and online customers can schedule it anytime within the update window, which runs through February 2027. New environments receive Quality Management automatically, while existing environments can install it from Extension Management. Before going live, test inspection workflows in a sandbox, review templates and generation rules, and confirm that bin and quarantine locations are set up correctly. A short training session for each role also helps teams adopt the new steps quickly.
