Any suggestions on the best approach to start learning PBI (preferably a self-paced –> self-learning route)?
Blogs
Resources
Tutorials
Webinars
etcMy team and I are all from the Dynamics GP background & are seasoned SQL, SSRS & Financial Reporting tool users.
Thanks in advance!

This is exactly why i looked at this post. what a great question. i also would love to learn how to use PBI but i do not have the extensive background that Kyle has I am just a AX2012 and 365 user that also uses Power BI, but just as a look up tool, i don’t actually know what i am doing. so is there anywhere to go to learn how to use this? I also agree self learning, self paced.Just looked around website and it looks like you can pay for classes they are called Belt classes and each one is 249.00 each and i believe there were 5 of themĀ
I am just looking for basic knowledge, how do you filter, how to set up a new table etc things that i think might be basic and not have to pay for.Ā

I suggest trying out the edx course, Analyzing and visualising data with Power BI. The rest you will figure out. šhttps://www.edx.org/course/analyzing-and-visualizing-data-with-power-bi-2. I really believe these things are like going to the gym, someone can show you how to use the machinery but the muscle will come as you work out on your own. š——————————

I was in your position last year. There is a website, EDX.org, that has a couple of free courses you can take to get the basics down. I also got a book by Matt Allington called Supercharge Power BI that has been an invaluable starting point (you can get it on Amazon). RADACAD, SQLBI, and PowerBI.tips are good resources as well.——————————

This free online book is pretty good: https://radacad.com/online-book-power-bi-from-rookie-to-rockstarBest way to learn is to use the tool (don’t fall back to doing a quick visual in excel or something like that).Ā Figure out how to do it in Power BI.Ā ?
There is a youtube tutorial by Avi Singh that’s only 60 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGrl-H87pRU
If you’re already tech-savvy, that will give you the general idea of how Power BI works so you can get started exploring.Best of luck,

Hi Kyle,
I’m undertaking the same. A good start with Power BI imho is to pick up a few courses from Udemy, which gets you hands-on. Then the next thing you want will be to get more advanced and for that you can lean on SQLBI.Then as far as linking everything up to D365, you need to consider, Entity store (which I believe is all you can currently use for embedded BI) and CDS or BYOD.
