So it seems that accountants have very specific desiresĀ  of when to underline numbers in financial reports.Ā  Evidently this can easily be done in Tableau but does not appear doable in Power BI.Ā  I’m trying to use a pivot table to report out financial data and need to show underlines and double underlines at group and grand totals in specific columns.Ā Ā

I thought of hard coding a line shape overlaying the number but that won’t work as the pivot table may change where the column lies depending on what filters or slicers are selected.

Are there any custom visuals designed specifically for financial reporting that support more field formatting options?Ā  Has anybody found any other ways to create financial reports formatted the way accountants and finance people prefer?

      Thanks,

I would imagine that these types of reports should probably be generate via Paginated Reports. That is always the best option for Financial data.Ā  However, it would require that you learn that interface which is not the easiest to learn.Ā  Start with Peter Myers you tube series: Power BI Paginated Reports in a DayĀ  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN1t5p9aui0&list=PL1N57mwBHtN1icIhpjQOaRL8r9G-wytpT

Thanks for the reply, Ka Ly.  However I don’t believe paginated reports will work for me.  I currently don’t have a Premium space.  I also need to keep the tables responsive to slicers and filters on the BI report page.  I’m looking for a solution that would keep it within Power BI visuals.

      Thanks,

      Steve,

Check out this custom visual for P&L in Power BI from https://inforiver.com/.Ā  Additionally, Matt from exceleratorbi.com.au does a great blog post on the visual –Ā  Ā https://exceleratorbi.com.au/build-a-pl-in-power-bi-without-any-dax/

      Thanks,

      Hi Barry,
Thanks for the links.Ā  This looks very interesting and I will check in to it further.Ā  It does look like overkill for what I’m wanting and it is still beta yet. I hope pricing doesn’t prevent me from using it for the underlining feature I’m looking for.

have a look at the Acterys Financial Reporting visual: Financial Reporting with Power BI (acterys.com) it gives you a wide variety of underline options, Visualization according to IBCS and also allows you to add sub total calculations without the need for complex DAX. So you typically have significant performance boost.??
