      Hi All,

Having issues with a table visual and being able to sort by multiple columns.

In the query editor I have the following being applied towards the end.

      #”Sorted Rows1″ = Table.Sort(#”Renamed Columns1″,{{“Project Stage”, Order.Ascending}, {“Priority”, Order.Ascending}})

In the data view this seems to look fine. However in the table visual I can only see it sorting by “Project Stage” column.

Any ideas on what would be causing this and how to resolve would be great.

      Thanks,

      Hi ,

You can click on the ellipses of the bar chart and then go to sort by and sort it by whatever column that you want to.

Also you can try to select a column in the ‘data view’ and sort it by the values of another column using ‘Sort by column’ in the modeling tab of the Report view.

      Hope this solves your issue.

      Thank you,?

      Hi ,

Its not a bar chart its a table visual. The ellipse? does not provide an option to sort by more than one column.

When I try the Sort by Column from the data view under modelling, as you suggested I got the following error.

      Sort by another column

We can’t sort the ‘Trying to sort’ column by ‘Sort column’. There can’t be more than one value in ‘Sort column’ for the same value in ‘Trying to sort’. Please choose a different column for sorting or update the data in ‘Sort column’.

So still unable to sort by multiple columns in the table visual.

      Hi ,

Yes you can sort a column by only 1 column in the data view. So here is a workaround.

Is it possible for you to create a measure and then sort the table visual by that measure and then hide the column for the measure in that table visual.

This way your column is already sorted (by another column) in the data view and then it can be sorted further using the measure.

If you can upload some sample, I can try to create that table for you.

      Thank you,

Thanks for your assistance in the end I created a concatenated column and used that to sort and have hidden it.

Appreciate your assistance in steering me in the right direction. Hopefully down the track Microsoft make this easier to do.

      Regards
      Sam

      Hi Sam,

Sorting the the data table itself via query editor or within data view does not affect the visual sorting. This has to be managed by way of the comment made byĀ Ā ?
