I have a need to publish a report that will allow a user to enter a list of account numbers that the report will then check to see if the account is in one of three categories.
I have a SSRS report that requests a parameter (account number) and then checks the file for any matches.Ā The list can be any length, but most people are checking around 10-20 at a time.Ā Ā
I don’t know if a similar facility exists in Power BI.Ā The list of account numbers is about 21 million so having people select from a list is out of the question.Ā Ā
If someone else has solved the issue in a different way, I am not married to this solution.

Hi Tim, The Power BI Slicer visual does have a Search option that can be enabled for text fields in the visual header (as shown below), though it only allows filtering the slicer list based on one value at a time (i.e. users couldn’t paste in a comma separated list as I imagine would be ideal in your situation).Ā Ā
There are however several third-party visuals that allow you to do just that if your organization allows. One that I just tried seems fairly simple to use and robust based on my quick assessment is the “Mass Filter” certified visual by Insiders.Ā The “Filter by List” visual from DevScope was a close second, but it didn’t handle pasting in multiple lists quite as well and didn’t remove duplicates.Ā
Ā I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Tim,
As Jared mentioned, Power BI is REPORTING tool, Not database to search. However, All depends how fast they need answer. What I mean? People can save their lists of people they are interested in in excel file on sharepoint/teams with static template (or make form?) and system can be set on refresh every hr or 30 mins, and these lists can be added to the report -> give the answer at the end.
I know it’s not perfect and what is expected, but. Power BI is visual, NOT DATA provider.
