      Hi all,

I have managed to install multiple gateways on a few machines, but I am struggling with one computer where I get the following error, and then the installation rolls back:

System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service PBIEgwService on computer ‘.’. —> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
      — End of inner exception stack trace —
      at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.Start(String[] args)
      at Microsoft.PowerBI.EgwInstallUtils.CustomActions.RestartService(Session session)

I have googled this extensively, and found that there are similar threads with this issue with a lot of frustrated users, but no real solution….

I’m hoping there is a clever person here that might be able to shed some light on a solution

      ?Hi Clinton

I have had this problem and the solution was to change the logon used to start the service. I have a generic logon which I use for PBI so used this. Every time I update the gateway on that machine I need to remember to change it back as it always overwrites with the out of the box login however at least the gateway works šŸ™‚

      Thanks Sharon,

In my case the service doesn’t even get installed, so not able to change the user account. I can’t see any way of doing it during the installation…. It seems that in my case the problem is a corrupt profile on the machine that I’m installing it on…. managed to get the Personal Gateway working on that machine, which is not ideal (because I can only have 1 personal gateway, and now I have used it), but fine until I can resolve the corrupt profile issue…

?Just curious what you are trying to install on? Server or desktop? OS?

I’ve gotten a test gateway working on a desktop (Win7 but upgraded to Win10 without any issue), but useful to know of any server installs that went awry in case I get something similar when we move the gateway to a server.
