I have a CSV data source with a timestamp field in this format:
2020-10-14 18:40:00.000 UTC

When I try to change the data type to Date, I get this error:
DataFormat.Error: We couldn’t parse the input provided as a Date value.
Details:
2020-10-14 18:32:00.000 UTC

How do I change this data type? It works automatically for every other date field I have, so I’m not sure what to do.

Hi , can you screenshot this or at least give a dummy. I could suggest using extraction in power query but there could be better ways of doing it.??

Hi ,

This is an assumption, that since you have your field as DateTime it is not converting it to data.

A couple of things you can try is to split the date and time and then convert it.
Another is to try to remove the 0s after the decimal from the time i.e. ?18:32:00.000

If none of these work, please share a sample file with us.

Thanks for the tip, I got it working. It was actually the letters UTC that was the culprit. When I removed them, I was able to change the data type to Date. However, it presented a new problem.
I’m really trying to change the type to Date/Time/Timezone. When I did that, Power Query assumed the values were local time so it put the timezone as -04:00, my local timezone. So instead of removing UTC, I changed it to GMT and that worked, setting it to +00:00. I only knew to try that because another of my data sources sends data with the letters GMT and it works. It would be nice if Power Query recognized the letters UTC in the same way it recognizes GMT.
