      Hi,

I’m new to Desktop Power BI.  Even though I’m a CPA, in my former life I was a software engineer.  While I’m doing OK w/ DAX expressions, I think that I’m only utilizing 10% of its capabilities.  Can anyone recommend a good book or online course (not from Microsoft – it doesn’t work for me) that teaches one how to really learn DAX in order to build complex analysis & drill-down reports?

Thanx in advance for your help,

      Best,

      Irene

Pragmatic Works has an extensive library of online courses for Power BI Desktop at a reasonable cost.Ā  I’ve taken several, both online and live, and they are exceptionally well done.Ā  A lot of information, interesting presentation and very user friendly.

This book has helped me tremendously in my Power BI consulting:Ā Analyzing and Visualizing Data By Using Power BI

This is my favorite blog and youtube channel:

      Greetings :Ā

The following is ‘hands down’? the authoritative guide on how to functionally master DAX for your use case (e.g., excel, PowerBI, Analysis Services, etc.):Ā
      DAX – SQLBI

This will step you through everything you need (e.g., data modeling, authoring DAX, etc.).Ā

Another good reference for a general overview of power bi would be Microsoft’s course on EDX (Free):Ā
Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Power BI

      Hope this helps!
      Thanks!
      William

SQLBIĀ  hasĀ a great free course on DAX called Introducing DAX. These are the masters of DAX too.Ā
Two more excellent resources that I have experience with and can attest to are udemy courses from Chris Dutton. He has one that includes a lot of DAX called, Intro to Power Query, Power Pivot & DAX. The other is called Up & Running with Power BI Desktop.Ā

Free e-book to be downloaded from hereĀ – author, Reza Rad is one of most active Power BI professional. Chapter 8 covers DAX and giving you some good examples. Good luck!

?I recommend “The Definitive Guide to DAX” (Second Addition).
I studied DAX with this book and it will give you all about DAX from A to Z.
