Good Afternoon – We are on GP2016R2.Ā  We have 3 building locations and several other transitional locations (off-site refrigerated storage, compliance review, etc.).Ā  Once a customer order is placed, we allocate the material.Ā  Often, that same material has to be moved for one reason or another before the order is completed and we have to un-allocate it, do the transfer, then re-allocate it.Ā  This process is leading to data entry errors.Ā  I have been asked to see if Is there an easier way to do this?Ā  I would appreciate any ideas on this.Ā  Please let me know if I can provide any other information. Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Anne, is any of your inventory lot or serial tracked? To consume your inventory, are you “issuing” or doing “backflushing”?
I might have a couple suggestions based on how we handle movement between sites and outside services, but it depends on how your inventory is set-up.

Hi Aleiha – Thank you for your response.  Our inventory is lot tracked and it is issued, not backflushed.  I look forward to your suggestions.

      Anne,

Here is a tidbit of information you may not have known… Ā  you can specify which site to sell out of on the sales order.Ā  Maybe you don’t have to do any transfers.

Thank you, Chris.  I will take a look to see if this is how our Sales Orders are set up.

      Anne,
I can see that your organization is in the food processing industry and perhaps we have a solution that can accommodate your need to transfer ingredients between sites prior to releasing on a sales order.Ā  In general GP does not allow allocated lots to be acted upon except for the purpose of the original allocation.Ā  In other words if a lot is allocated to a sales order it can be consumed by the sales order but if you want to move the lot to another location you must first unallocated it.Ā  This sounds like the issue you are running into.Ā  With our manufacturing solution we can accommodate transferring lots between sites using the contents or pick functionality of the batch ticket. This would eliminate the data entry errors you are dealing with.Ā  We also have a full suite of functionality for quality control including the ability to prevent lots being transacted in GP when they are on hold for quality reasons (for which there is no GP functionality) as well as extensive capabilities for Certificates of Analysis.

I don’t typically respond to the forum with information on our products but it seems we may have functionality that would be really relevant and as there are a small number of process based manufacturers on GP I thought it possible you might not get other helpful information. Ā
