Hi
Try logging out of GP and back in.Ā Seems like maybe a connection issue.Ā How are you accessing GP (locally, RDP, Citrix, etc)?

Have tried logging off GP several times.
This is a local GP install.

I have no other processes that indicate any connection problems.
It appears to be only when trying to allocate Sales Order items via Automatic Order Allocation

Are other GP users having the same issue you are??

Periodically stops working with the message from the original post.
To add some additional detail
1. I’m running the Sales Auto Allocation from an automated macro that runs every 30 minutes, logs into GPĀ and then does the Auto Allocation and exits GP.
2. When I get the error if I log in manually as sa and then run the Sales Order Allocation it runs OK and then for a period of time thereafter the automated process will work. All this is being done on the same workstation.
Scratching my head! -:)

As she said, you’re losing your database/network connection. There are two reasons:1. Your local client does not meet the Microsoft network connection standard of 1GB EthernetĀ (move it to XenAp or RDP or a high up-time DPS/Postmaster client) and…
2. Your ” automated macro” with its login bat files or whatever does not have adequate pause/wait time periods built in to allow processes to complete onĀ the poor network connection before another process or macro kicks off. It appears periodic because network traffic varies.
I have no idea what your automation customization is but that’s the problem together with the local fat client. Macros typically wait for a process to complete, but multiple bat file(s) don’t wait on each other.
You don’t get the same result when you log in manually and key in the transaction because you can’t login and key it fast enough to get ahead or frequent enough to get the bad network connection.
I can tell you having had automations login and run something like an IV Reconcile Utility, then change Company Database and do it again and go thru maybe 20-30 Company Databases running the IV Reconcile then log out, the appropriate wait time pauses are critical to success. We would only use a DPS or Postmaster client for this activity.

Can’t beleive it is the network connectivity because as I said above when I run into the issue I can login as sa and then it will work normally for some time before being problematic again.
With that said I updated the macro to login as sa so I could see if the macro was the problem.
It has run for the last 2 days using sa without encountering a problem.

Believe it! Changing your customization to use sa will help because GP will not have to go thru security roles and tasks and set up the user security profile during login that it has to do for other users. (that takes time)Ā Just compare log in times for sa to aĀ restricted user all the way thru selecting the company database and getting the menus set up.
With sa you will then get fewer network errors/drops over your local client connection using an auto login bat/macros that do not provide for adequate wait time pauses for processes to complete over a slow or inconsistent network.
But better to fix the problem than use sa.——————————
