On GP 2016 R2
We are having issues where SmartList will go into a “sleep mode”.Ā The user enters search criteria and clicks OK.Ā No response, even after 50 minutes.Ā Ā When theĀ user selects the “>” toĀ expand the left pane to select another SmartList, no response.Ā But, the user can click on Search and enter new criteria, but still no response.Ā If the users clicks the Refresh button, no response.
TheĀ results bar stays like this:
The user can use other GP windows which is why I am thinking that SmartList is in “sleep mode” because when SmartList is running, we cannot use other GP windows.
If we close the SmartList window and reopen, it is still in “sleep mode”.Ā The only way to correct the issue is to log out of GP and back in.
Does anyone know the cause or fix for this issue?

I’ve seen this happen when using wildcards in a SmartList search – there are just so many fields to search that it overwhelms SmartList.Ā Ā That said, when I’ve seen this, it does eventually return the results.First question would be, while it looks like it’s in sleep mode, what do you see if you go to Microsoft Dynamics GPProcess Monitor?Ā I’m wondering if there is something else queued up in there that is keeping SmartList from processing.Ā SmartList processes will predominantly start with ASI.
Second question, does this happen for multiple users on multiple workstations?Ā Ā If only one user and/or one workstation then you have a set point to start troubleshooting.
Last question, ?does it happen for only one object in SmartList – everything is fine for Vendor queries but it always dies on GL Transaction queries?Ā This could lead you to consider a data issue.
Just a few trains of thought to get you started.
Thanks

Thanks Wendi.I will take a look at Process Monitor. Typically though when SmartList runs we cannot open other screens.Unfortunately, it happens with multiple users and multiple SmartLists.Thank for the ideas——Original Message——

The populating of the SmartList runs as a background process. So it will be queued up behind any other processes in the queue as shown by process monitor.
If the queue has been paused or something else is processing (which could include a report printed to screen sitting with the screen output window open), the SmartList will appear to hang.
