Services Item Type has On Hand Quantities

Services Item Type has On Hand Quantities
We have a couple of items with the type of “Service”, that have On Hand Quantities in the Item Inquiry windows and inventory reports. There are not any, in any bins and if you try to do a stock inquiry lookup, you do receive the warning message about quantities not being tracked. My question is, is tracking the On Hand quantity per site supposed to be happening like this or is there something wrong with our system? Thanks in advance!

Hi Matt,
The most common cause of this is someone changing the item type directly in the SQL database. The user interface will not allow this change. It was probably setup as an inventory item originally. Then there was activity (receipts, adjustments, etc.). Then it was changed to a service item.
Here are a couple solutions…
– Use the PSTL tool to change Item Number to something else. Create a new (service) Item using the original item number. Now you have a blank slate (with not quantities).
– Find the culprit who changed the item type and have them wipe out the quantities on the inventory tables.
I prefer the first solution.
