      Hello Everybody,

We want to provide access to the Purchasing module to new users, but there is confidential information in the module associated with certain Vendors.

Is there a way to restrict access to a select group of vendors only, using the Vendor Class ID (for example) to control which Vendors are accessible to users, and which are hidden?

      * This is in a GP company that was only used for Financials and Payables previously.

      Thanks for suggestions.
      Maria.

      Hi Maria

This sort of row level filtering is possible.  See my article on the proof of concept I developed a while back.

      https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/developingfordynamicsgp/2008/08/12/row-level-filtering-proof-of-concept/

To achieve this on your system would probably need some scripting using Dexterity.

If could probably also be achieved using the Developer Tools module of GP Power Tools to script it. This is easier to maintain, deploy and support than a custom Dexterity dictionary.

      Hi David,

Very interesting information. I’m concerned about the risk of having confidential  information show up on reports despite the controls.

Our team will have to do some brainstorming.

Thank you very much for the reply.

      Maria.

      Maria,

Just a thought.  By using Extender from eOne Solutions, you could move the confidential information off the Vendor Maintenance window and into Extender windows.  Security of Extender windows is handled separately from the default GP security roles and default the Extender field aren’t included in default GP reports.  You can then add the Extender windows to the roles or individuals that you want to have access and modify the report writer reports that you want to include the information on and control the access of those modified reports.

Additionally in the test environment, you can download the Extender software and use it against your Fabrikam company to test out a proof of concept for the above process.
