Usually when I print from GP, I hit print and the option pops up to select a printer.  Suddenly, the document is printing to the default printer without allowing me to select another printer.  I am the admin and have not changed any settings.  I can’t seem to find the setting to see why I no longer have the option to select a printer.  Thanks for any guidance.

If you are using Named Printers, you may want to look at the following:

Administration > Named Printers
Click Machine ID link

Make sure the Do Not Display System Print Dialog checkbox is not checked.

Hi

That checkbox is just an User Interface to the NoPrintDialogs=TRUE Dex.ini setting. By Setting it using the Named Printers window it will probably be stored in the User’s Dex.ini settings (which are persisted in the SY01405 SQL Table) rather than the Global Dex.ini in the Data folder.

If you are using Named Printers to control printer destinations and settings you would usually want this option checked so that you don’t get an extra dialog and cannot mess up what Named Printers is doing…. like redirecting cheques/checks from the correct printer to your personal printer!!!

Thanks .  I am torn between being annoyed when it pops up every time and needing to redirect the printer when working from home.  I keep printing to the office.  🙂  I need to think about the pros and cons.  I really don’t know how it got changed.  I usually print to screen and then to printer if needed and select my printer at that time.  We have no other admins (and I’m only a poor substitute :-)) and I didn’t have our partner working on anything so this is a mystery.

You can have the dialog turned off and not be using Named Printers.

You just need to remember to change the File >> Setup Printer settings BEFORE printing the report.

– did I misunderstand?  Is there a user setting for this as well?  I would rather keep this setting on as a global setting, but off for myself.

If you are using per user Dex.ini settings, you can tell if you have EnablePerUserIni=TRUE in your Global dex.ini.

Then if you use the Named Printers window to change the setting, it should be stored in your user’s Dex.ini settings and only affect you.
