Posting Settings

A posting setting was changed from displaying individual detailed lines on the detail page of a CMTRXĀ to instead combining the account activity. This setting was not changed manually. Why would the system automatically change this setting?

Please elaborate further?Ā GP does not modify settings on its own.
If you’re referring to the create a journal entry per transaction or per batch in the posting setup window for financial – bank transaction entry, one thing I’ve seen is people have the window set to all when they meant to have it set to a specific part of the GL, and they change the setting and it affects everything.
If you’re referring to the maintain history in the bank reconciliation setup, someone would have had to go into that window and uncheck the maintain history box, GP does not just change settings on its own.
Any 3rd parties or customization’s in play?
How do you know a user did not change something?

?We have also experienced this problem in Payroll, Purchasing and Sales.Ā We thought we were losing our minds because only a certain number of people have access to change this.Ā So I totally believe this is changing on it on it own.——————————

I have seen Posting settings change “unexpectedly” when the settings are changed at a series level rather than for the individual transaction sources.
The series settings get rolled down and mess up transaction source settings.
This is a user issue, but gives the impression that the data has changed by itself.

This is easily the most haunted window/table in GP. If something is magically changing in GP, it’s in Posting Settings. I hear this all the time. Yes, the window is complicated to use correctly, and it’s easy to make a mistake, but no ever admits to making changes in this window. To really stop unintended changes and exorcise these ghosts, get an audit trail tool and track changes on the SY02300 table. Activity Tracking doesn’t count, it doesn’t actually track changes.
The result is when people actually track this table, they never, ever come back saying the system made changes on its own. The ghosts are gone. It’s also much easier to convince your company to buy an audit trail tool than to hire a priest for a digital exorcism.

??We had this situation happen after the last major upgrade.Ā None of us recalled going intoĀ a setup windowĀ at all,Ā but it changed our payroll to enter into our bank registerĀ by line item instead of by batch (exposing payroll information to non-payroll employee!!).ĀIn researching we discovered how incredibly easy it is to changeĀ settings for all (default) instead of a specific series, and how sometimes you have no clue you made a change-no notification or are you sure you want to change, etc.Ā In our testing and learning we even had it come up one time and say something along the lines of “you made a permanent change” but all you could do was say ok-you couldn’t back out of it at all.Ā Don’t remember exactly what that one was, but it sure got our attention for a minute and we were really glad we were in test.Ā
I wish GP would not have the default set to All and would force you to pick a series to change.Ā
While I believe Mark and the others that the system “never changes itself”, we are certainly in the ghost camp on this one as none of us had any reason to be changing setups during the upgrade time frame but that is exactly what happened.Ā As a result, we have changed our procedures that none of us go into these setup screens without a second set of eyes, hoping to reduce the human error that causes GP to “do things on its own”.
