Using Management Reporter 2012 with GP 2015I have just closed our last fiscal year in GP (July – June 2019). Now I am trying to run a balance sheet and profit & loss for July 2019, the first month in our new fiscal year.Ā Management reporter does not list the new year so I cannot select the correct date for the report.
How can I get MR to list the current year in the “Base year” drop down – 2020?Ā See attached image.
PS – our fiscal years were set up incorrectly from the beginning, so even though 6-30-2019 – 7-1-2020 should be FY 2019, it is listed as 2020.Ā This should have no effect on my question though.

,I’m curious: if you chose Period 1?, would the report date be 7/31/2018?
Do you have more than one company? Do those companies have the same fiscal year? Which company are you logged into in M-R? (The one in the status bar at the bottom of the M-R window.)
>>Ā PS – our fiscal years were set up incorrectly from the beginning, so even though 6-30-2019 – 7-1-2020 should be FY 2019, it is listed as 2020.Ā This should have no effect on my question though. <<
I’m a bit confused by this. You say “it is listed as 2020”. Do you mean in your G/L? If your fiscal year is, indeed, closed then M-R should pick up the current fiscal year if it, indeed, is open.

Hi Steve,Yes, Period 1 for Base year 2019 is 7/31/2018.
Yes, there are three companies in GP.Ā All except this company have a calendar fiscal year.Ā M-R is logged into this company (FYE 6-30-2019) on the bottom status bar.
In the PS I said it “is listed as 2020”.Ā IRS convention on corporate tax returns is to use the BEGINNING of the year as the tax year.Ā Hence the FY 7-1-2018 thru 7-31-2019 is labeled as FY 2019 rather than FY 2018 per IRS.
Is there something I need to do in GP to set the active fiscal year?
I’ve attached a screen shot of Fiscal Period setup.Ā As you can see, 2020 is properly set up and open.

,Very interesting. Since this is outside of my own experience, I’m going to call out to and to chime in if they are able. David wrote a very good book on Management Reporter for Accolade Publications; and Derek is part of the excellent MSX Group. I took an M-R course from him at Summit a few years ago and he offered substantial support to me when I was learning it.
Sincerely,???

Hi Richard,
You have probably already tried this, but have you gone to Tools >> refresh Cached Financial Data? Sometimes I have found the system just needs a little ‘kick’ to get going. The other thing I would look at is whether, at the bottom of the MR window, you have this company listed as the default, and if the report definition says “@Any” or if it also has the company name of the company where you want to run the report. If all else fails, rebuild the DataMart (the MR version of CTRL + Ale + Del) :-)!Ā Ā
Good luck, and happy reporting!

Hello, a few thoughts and experiences to share:
- When it was noted the year 2020 does not show in the Mgt Rpt report definition base year field, my first thought/check would be to go to the GP to make sure the year 2020 and periods are setup as that is the cause and fix normally.Ā An Added note if multiple company, the year and other drop down liast (for accounts, departments, budgets) are dependent on the default company you are logged into (go to Company | Companies in MgtRpt Designer to see/change default company)
- Most clients have the datesĀ 6-30-2019 – 7-1-2020 as FY2020 so that is common practice and the large majority
- Reiterate about refreshed cached financial data (under Tools in MgtRpt Designer) and all else fails rebuild data mart,Ā https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dynamics_financial_reporting/2016/06/28/resetting-the-management-reporter-data-mart
- If the prior year is NOT closed (common question we get) then see workaround below that may apply to others (have two no print columns to sum into third where one no print column grabs prior year end (year=BASE-1, period=12, YTD) and the other this year activity (year=BASE, period =1:BASE, Periodic)
- If any follow up questions glad to via this post or Derek.Krebs@msxgroup.com
Have a nice weekend ALL…

Thanks to Steve, Janice and Derek!I had refreshed the cached financial data, which took only a few seconds.Ā This did nothing.
The default company was correct on the MR status bar and the financial period had been set up and was open in GP.
Then I rebuilt the data mart – a harrowing experience since you have to delete the MR database (even though I created a backup).Ā After that, all was back to normal and I can see FY 2020 finally.
Thanks for the help!
