Wanted to check to see if anybody has implemented Segregation of Duties for setting up vendors in GP.  The concept is to have one person create a vendor and another person approve the vendor (but not be able to change data for the vendor).  Simply an approval process (maybe workflow or something?)

      Thanks!

Workflow is the best and simplest option. That gives you the chance to review both new and changed vendors. You could do a small customization to put all new vendors on hold and then use GP’s functionality to require a password to release the hold, but if Workflow is available for your version, do that.

There is a lot more to consider with vendor segregation of duties (ex. vendor addresses can be added outside of vendor maintenance and then a check sent to the alternate address) but based on your question, that’s the best option.

Randall – greetings from the Pacific NW.

At Tidewater, we have worked through the segregation of duties existing between Purchasing and Finance regarding setting up new vendors – see attached PDF.  We refer to the segregation as ‘swim lanes.’

While this is heavily influenced from a Purchasing perspective – it should provide a start to delegating GP duties to those involved in creating or editing the Vendor Card.

Please email me directly if you’d like the Microsoft Visio version or have any questions.

      Best of luck!

      Kevin
