    Hi everyone,

We are trying to understand GP’s planning capabilities with the intent of fully using those in the future.
I have been running some tests in the GP testing instance, with different scenarios. One of them was to use a Lot for Lot policy for a specific PN, with an order up to level at 200u ( see image below). I also added a Sales order of 500u in the future and ran MRP. To my confusion, GP suggested ONE 500u purchase order (Buy item), not taking the order up to level attribute into consideration. Can anyone explain to me how GP uses that attribute (Order up to level) ? I was expecting to se maybe 2 POs of 200u and 1PO of 100u to fulfill the demand?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated,

    HI Geffersonne,
I’m not too familiar with the ERP planning of GP, but maybe @Fred Hartman can provide some insights.. He’s been working with MFG in GP for 20+ years..

    Hi Geffersonne,

There may be several items to point out about GP MRP. One is when using Lot for Lot, GP is going to use the Order Point Qty and not the up to level as your quantity supply target. The up to level will start to give oversupply messages if exceeded, but will not be the “max” for this policy. You were expecting 2 orders of 200 and 1 of 100 you mentioned – that would be controlled by the Order Quantity Modifiers fields to set a maximum order size which is 0. The order could also be effected by the order policy on the item vendor record and the quantity on hand and timing of this order.

MRP can be tricky to understand especially at first with the different order policies and effects. I would suggest a training session with your partner to work thru the details and your setup goals. I’ve had some good references in the past, but sorry none handy to share but maybe someone else could help you out with a link or 2.

    HI Geffersonne,

We use Horizons for our MRP, so it may not help if GP has the Planning attributes override these, but don’t forget to consider your Vendor settings. They should also impact your order quantities based on your vendor mins / max and EOQ. Again, not sure if it helps, but something to consider.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Geffersonne,

A possible answer to your question is here in the middle of this well written article:

    https://willoware.com/manufacturing-move-out-logic/

“Order Policy: “Lot for Lot” will be easiest to work with because MRP generates a suggestion for each demand. The other methods group demand/supply into buckets which can make it more difficult to understand MRP’s recommendations. At least for learning how Move OUt works, Lot For Lot is the best policy.”

    Thanks
