Microsoft automatically upgraded Windows 10 and now all of my programs, including Dynamics GP have the wrong sized fonts, window bars, and menus.Ā  Some windows are too small to read.
I did the fixes prior to this upgrade and everything worked fine, now I’m back at square one.

      Any advice would be appreciated.

      ,

This isn’t a solution, unfortunately; more of a shared misery statement. We’re transitioning from fat client GP installations to a Remote Desktop Server? installation. Until all the add-ons work properly, we’re giving the users the choice to run locally or remotely.

One user, and only one user (out of 7), sees “normal” sized GP fonts with her local copy of GP running. When she switches to remote she gets a hodge-podge of font sizes:

Her menu bar uses LARGE fonts; the “To Do” list and the transaction windows all have “normal” font sizes; and the navigation list has teeny font size.

We use the font size adjustment utility in ‘sĀ GP Power Tools. Everybody else using Remote GP has no trouble. Just this one user.

      Beats my pair of jacks!

      Regards,
      ??

      and

Please make sure you use GP Power Tools to fix both Bitmap Fonts and activate Bitmap Scaling. Note that these settings are for the current workstation only and would probably need to be performed on both the local workstation instance of GP AND on a remote terminal server instance of GP.

Also make sure that Window 10’s own scaling options in the shortcut properties are DISABLED. They will prevent bitmap scaling from working and they don’t scale GP properly.

The following article has more detail:

Not sure if this will fix all cases of misbehaving fonts, but I have used a manifest file in Windows 10 for several years and GP versions to correct this issue and set GP back to “normal” display mode. You can find the information about creating a manifest file here:Ā https://dynamicsgpland.blogspot.com/2016/09/fix-dynamics-gp-scaling-and-font-size.html

??Have a read of the article I posted. It includes the Manifest method either manually or via the user interface in GP Power Tools, but also includes a number of other resolutions to related problems.

I ran into the same problem, Steve Endow’s blog above (referenced by Brian) was the solution.
He is referring to another blog, this PROBABLY will affect other programs as well,
including SQL SSMS and Remote Data Server.Ā  (SSMS was mentioned in the other blog)

By the way, does anybody know if the Manifest file solution described also works for remote sessions accessed by Remote Data Server?
I have not tried this yet, I presume it will also work.

The manifest file and registry entries outlined in my blog post is the only solution I’m aware of.

If the scaling issue appeared after a Windows update, you could try re-importing the registry fix and rebooting to see if that helps.

If that doesn’t work, you could try removing the registry changes and the manifest files, rebooting, and then reinstalling them. (backup your registry before making any changes)

Given how quirky the issue seems to be (i.e. only one user has the issue), it seems like there may be another factor involved, but I don’t know what it is.

One issue I have had with RDP sessions: If you log in to an RDP session initially on a high DPI monitor, then disconnect, then reconnect from a machine with a standard DPI monitor, the issue can arise.Ā  You have to log out completely from the RDP session, then log back on.Ā  That will reset the scaling for the RDP session and may resolve the scaling issue.

      Thank you all.

I implemented the manifest file last summer and it was working fine.
It turns out that this last Windows update took out the registry setting.

I added the reg key and it is working again.

      Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the update, glad the registry reimport resolved the issue.

Did you have to reboot your machine after updating the registry?
