In general, it’s a good idea to treat ID’s very carefully and avoid non alphanumeric characters because of the ways those get handled on the database end.Ā Remember, to a computer, there is no difference between a hyphen and a minus sign, which can cause problems depending on the situation.Ā Best policy is to use only numbers and letters in ID fields.Ā Other characters specifically to avoid in ID fields: *, &, %, #, @,Ā !, ‘, “, and the comma itself.Ā If you want to use a separator character, use the underscore “_” instead, as it has no alternative use and is always treated as a printable character.??
