Using GP 2015 r2, is there a way to easily remove an Customer account that was created by mistake?  I would think that trying to remove the save on exit/cancel feature would take some work, is there a setting that will prompt for confirmation of saving a Customer instead of automatically saving.  If not, is there a maintenance procedure that can be done to eliminate these ‘fat fingered’ Customer entries?

A customer can be deleted  using the DELETE button on the Customer Maintenance window.  Note that you can’t delete a customer card if it has a current balance, posted or unposted transactions, transactions in history, or if it part of a national account.

I agree that you can’t delete an account with history.  It’s been awhile but I think we create an account with the correct details and combine the “bad” one into the good one.

If it is part of a National Account can you disassociate it with that National account, provided it has no history, balance, or transactions?

As long as there is no link on transactions between the two, yes the child can be disassociated from the National Account.

I see the Customer Mass Delete.  If we made these ‘error’ customers inactive. we could then do a mass delete yes, as long as they do not have history or are associated with national accounts?

And just to confirm there is no way to remove the auto-saving or change a setting to prompt for saving, without having customization work be done?

I am very interested to hear what others say about this “auto-saving” portion of your request. I have only seen the confirmation pop-up when adding or changing customer cards, as shown below. I have never heard of an “Auto-save on exit” feature that you describe.

It the customer record doesn’t have activity, then you should be able to delete the record.  However, if you have posted activity, you would consider the professional tool  – customer combiner.  https://mbs.microsoft.com/downloads/public/GP10Docs/ProfServicesToolsLibrary.pdf

I, too, am confused about “auto-save”.  The user must either click the Save button or, if they close the window or move off it without saving, they’re prompted as in the screenshot above.

The GP Navigation List showing all customers is a handy way to mark multiple customers for deletion. You can add a filter that will show only inactive customers.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve been on this post.  I believe the ‘auto-save’ issue was basically user error, doing something they probably shouldn’t have.

If I do the mass delete function, if there are active customers in the range I choose, will GP just skip them and continue or will the whole process halt when it hits a customer with account activity?
