Brand new user and glad to be part of the community.
We are operating in a GP2015 R2 environment and are also subject to SOX.Ā Ā Former accounting group has GP defaults set so that every sales invoice transaction requires a second user to post the batch,Ā which can create bottlenecks.Ā Ā As theĀ amounts of exceptions discovered by theĀ approvingĀ user,Ā Ā are extremely low, we are interested in setting up GP to auto post these sales invoice transactions to speed up our workflow, and design a compensating review control to replace the batch approval.
Was interested in hearing from any members if they have experience with setting GP to auto post and if so,Ā has there been any feedback from a SOX/Audit perspective.
Kind Regards Mark

?Hi Mark,
Technically I don’t have specific answers to your exact question but offer some periphery advice around auto-posting.
Out of the box, there is no automatic posting settings in GP, every batch must be touched by a user at one point or another. There are settings to automatically post through to the GL, but that’s not “auto posting” a batch from the point of origination.
There are a few ISV products out there to handle this, here are two off the top of my head: SmartPost by eOne Solutions Post Master by Envisage Software Solutions
A client of mine uses Post Master Enterprise and it’s fantastic. eOne is an ISV with fabulous products and I’m sure there’s is pretty good too, I just don’t have first hand knowledge of it.
What I may recommend when comparing these or other auto-post products, ensure you think about what controls you want on what is posted etc.
Can the auto-post automatically also print/save the resulting posting journals to a specific location or email them to someone so they can be reviewed?
How flexible is the configuration of what does and does not auto-post? Typically based on batch number or source transaction, but there may be other needs. Define what your ideal “rules” for when something is auto posted would be, and ask the vendors.
You mention SOP, but make sure if you have any customizations or third party add-ons, that they are compatible (if they interact with SOP). If you’re not sure, ask whoever bought or wrote them or test thoroughly.
Hope that helps,
Jen

Thank you so much for a very comprehensive answer and the recommendations.Ā I will look at these products and in addition our GP Consultants say they have a customization that can achieve the auto posting as well.
Kind regards
Mark

You’re welcome, and yes, there are options if customizations are on the table. At least knowing there are out of the box options gives you a place to compare pricing between the various solutions.
There are also ISVs to help build that functionality into a .net app or integration (like Winthrop Development Consultants Batch Posting Service Toolkit) which consultants can or have built into their own offerings (or straight up built their own, calling the services directly).
