Amazon Web Services Outage – Affecting GPUG Attachments
Posted by 6575161 on February 28, 2017 at 3:46 pm-
I noticed some issues with someone saying they couldn’t open an attachment. I just tried another website I use and had an issue that referenced the Amazon Web Services outage.
Just thought you should all know because it will affect any screenshots or attachments on this site because they are stored on the Amazon cloud.

Hi! You are correct that we were effected by the Amazon Web Services outage and service was restored at 5:08 p.m. EST. You should be able to attach files now, and my apologies for any inconvenience!——————————

No reason for appologize Marghet, it’s not GPUG’s fault..But this kind of incident shows how vulnerable you can be when your data is all hosted in the cloud.. imagine your operations interrupted because you can’t process any customer inquiry / order / posting anymore, for an undetermined time..
Yup, I realized too yesterday that something curious was going on as posted pictures would only shows with a small icon ‘x’ .. but wouldn’t have tought of the storage host..
Anyhow, not saying that everything ‘cloud’ is evil or bad, far from that, as this is part of today’s Internet-way-of-life, but it shows that nothing is granted 100%, despite companies trying to sell you SLA’s with 99.999% uptime.. shit can happen and then you’re sitting there, waiting on the restore of the services.. 🙂
The most frustratring part of this might be the fact that you don’t know why and how long.. At least when you have your own on-premise systems, you can figure out those facts (why ? how long ? who ?)..
Have a great ‘cloudy’ day all !!——————————
