Our company is currently looking at the ADP HR Suite (cloud based) to provide a number of HCM services.Ā Initial deployment would be limited to applicant tracking, onboarding, and employee performance management, but phase 2 of this initiative would be to deploy ADP time and attendance and limited HR administration.Ā Outsourcing payroll processing is not currently in scope for this project. While I’ve seen plenty of reports as to how to get hours from GP to ADP to process payroll, or for getting payroll GL transactions back into GP (both seem manual to semi-automated with jobs executed via integration manager) I’ve been unable to find any reports on those using ADP’s more comprehensive services for HR and how employee master data and payroll hours get back to GP for processing payroll.Ā ADP’s sales team is convinced they fully integrate with GP.Ā Integration comes in many flavors, so we are looking for some independent validation of their claims.
What says the GPUG brain trust?

Todd,
Most cloud based vendors now rely on middleware to integrate their solution to the ERP system. Ā It would be a very difficult, if not impossible task for ADP to integrate with every single ERP system on the planet. Ā Most ERP systems now have web services API’s that allow you to integrate between two systems, so a middleware product like Scribe or eOne SmartConnect lives in the middle of the two. Ā Usually you need someone with knowledge of both products to help develop the integration map. Ā As for out of the box, there may be some companies out there that offer an out of the box integration from ADP HR to GP. Ā I know the “old school” ADP Payroll system did have a GL integration that is built right into GP that outputs a .GLI file from ADP and you can import directly in GP, but that only imported the GL data from a payroll run, nothing else.
So, you may be able to find something out there – if not, you will have to talk to your GP VAR about getting something like SmartConnect or Scibe. Ā Scribe has a cloud-based offering, if you install web services on your GP server, and assuming ADP has their own web services API available to access, then you may be able to write the map in Scibe yourself if you have the technical knowledge. Ā All of the cloud based tools I work with have an API (Concur, Coupa, Intacct, etc). Ā

Hi Todd,JAT Consulting has a great add-on that integrates with GP HR and Payroll.Ā I have worked with them and their customers for several years.Ā It can take employee data from GP, send it to ADP, and pull ADP payroll data back into GP Payroll.Ā You would have to set up GP Payroll and basic employee data to accept the ADP data.Ā Here is the link to their site.Ā Ā http://www.jatnet.com/
The product is called, “JAT Payroll Interface” or “JPI”.Let me know if you have any questions.

Todd,I am also inĀ agreement with Rob on this process.Ā There are very few cloud solutions that actually talk with each other at this point in time.Ā That will probably happen as the customers demand for it increases but that is not something that I see the ADPs, Ultipros, etc. willing to do at this point and absorb that cost.Ā That will be on the customer.
The various cloud solutions appear to be very similar to the “best of breed” logic prior to the ERP products we now use.Ā Choose the functionality you want to make the systems talk to each other.Ā It was not as challenging at that point because all of the functions in HR stayed in HR or Fixed Assets stayed in Fixed Assets, etc. but now all of those functions are tightly integrated within the standard ERP packages and that makes your project considerably more difficult.
I have had experience with a few HR functions and you just need to beware of the sales pitch.Ā You indicated there are many reports but ask to see the one or two that are unique to your business.Ā I have seen that one missing report to be costly to create.Ā The cloud based software is generally more generic and users are typically unable to modify for specific data needs so make sure that what your business specific needs are that you have embedded in the GP Human Resources is available in the new HR system.
