Hi Everyone – We are currently in the beginning phase of our transition to Dynamics (currently looking at AX 2012 R3 and D365).Ā Needing input on how important it is or is not to stand up a data warehouse before we go-live.Ā We have approximately 20+ systems that will have one-way communication with the system and two that will have two-way……..WELCOME YOUR INPUT!

Hi Katie – Depending on which product you select will also impact the direction you may take, for example D365 cloud will have analytical spaces that will leverage Power BI within the product but the scope here is reporting based on few aggregations using in-memory tech. There’s a starting point for this prior to go-live with out any additional work.
With AX2012 R3, in my experience, focusing on go-live first and then taking care of datawarehouse design and follow through first with managerial and then operational needs might be a good start. Datawarehousing in itself is longer project so resource planning comes into play.
The above paragraph also applies to D365 when you explore analytical spaces and it doesn’t meet the needs.Difference here is you may end up show analytical engine/hosting in cloud or on-prem.
Hope this helps.
