As one of the SIG leaders, I’d like to open up a request line here for any topics the group would like to see covered in future webinars. I think we’ve generally done a decent job of offering “basics” or introductory depth presentations in the past, but haven’t really branched out into many other deeper dive areas. Some of those topics we whiz by in the basics presentations might merit more than a passing glance in a slide or two.

Consider this your opportunity to poke for more help in more areas. If you’ve got itches that need scratching, list them here and we’ll try to find gurus that are willing and able to help.

That’s not to say we won’t continue offering up intro/basics webinars–a band can’t put on a concert and ignore its greatest hits–but we’d like to build out our offerings to deliver more value to the group.

I’ve currently volunteered to present another basics/intro in August, and have a July offering focused on how to handle leadtimes.

So toss out your requests, stump the chumps, and let’s beef up our MP knowledge and skills.

      Hi Chan,

I think we still struggle to make sense of how to read the MRP screens and why it’s telling us to do certain things.Ā

Having that said, we may need to understand better how we should set up coverage groups for our different products. Ā For instance, our sales team quotes the customers a two week lead time, however it may take six weeks to get the RM in the house. Ā We’ve tried using min/max but decided just minimums will work better. What is the best way?Ā

Also, we have visual kanbans on the floor but nothing in the system for them to generate the RM demand. Ā Do we need to set up kanbans in the system, or could we just use minimum quantities to achieve the same thing? Ā
Another scenario is that we place orders for items say in plant 1, but the materials might be at plant 4 or one of the others. Ā We haven’t tried setting up transfer orders. Ā Should we do that?

Anyway, you get the gist. Ā We would like to optimize how we are doing it now. Ā Our MRP is only in the infancy stages and we are primarily just using it for purchasing, but I would like to successfully roll it out to production as well.

Oh, I almost forgot, we don’t have intercompany setup yet, but we do order products from our sister companies. Ā What is the best way?

That’s probably enough food for thought today. Ā šŸ™‚

      Thanks,

      Sam
