      Hello All,

I was curious how everyone in manufacturing captures their overhead rates in AX. Ā Also, do you use cost sheets?

We have machine and labor rates in, but how do you calculate it where you work? Ā Do you do it another way?

I look forward to your feedback.

      Thanks,

      Sam

Yes, you are correct. The cost sheet is where you cost overhead to product in AX from versions AX2009 and on, yes AX2012R2. Ā There is a lot of good content on line with costing in AX. Ā However, I have experienced that it still requires someone with several years of AX costing to assist someone newer to these processes and functionalities in AX. Ā Any other methods to record overhead are not supported and typically poor workarounds, for those who can’t find a specialist in costing. Contact your VAR for assistance.

      Sam,
You are correct, the costing sheet is the best method to capture overhead costs for production. Ā In 2012 R2 there are 4 methods of calculating an overhead cost (surcharge, rate, input based, and output based) that should cover most of the situations that are run into during overhead costing. Ā There is a good white paper out by Microsoft based on 2009 that shows how to set up a costing sheet. Ā It should be available on customer source if you search for costing sheet. Ā
Also, if you are planning on attending FOCUS in a couple of weeks, I’m doing a deep dive specifically on the costing sheet called “Demystifying the Costing Sheet.” Ā We will cover the proper setup, calculations and use of the costing sheet.

      Hi,
you can download this white paper which explains well what you need about costing sheets.
BOM calculations using costing sheets (White paper) [AX 2012]

      Microsoft remove preview
BOM calculations using costing sheets (White paper) [AX 2012]
This white paper describes the setup of the costing sheet and the additional elements that are involved in the calculation of manufacturing overhead for a bill of materials (BOM). The processes for including direct and indirect costs in the calculation of manufacturing overhead for a BOM are described for both single-level and multilevel BOM calculations.

Can you confirm that you can only post the overhead during production and not when the product is sold?Ā  I have a customer that want to post inventory to 3 different inventory asset accounts(Finished Goods, Indirect OH, Material) then upon selling the product have it prospectively reduce the 3 accounts and post to 3 COGS accounts(Finished Goods, Indirect OH, Material)Ā
