Good Day,Kindly advise if there is a method in which to block certain warehouses from the normal day to day transactions. ie. sales orders, purchase order, transfer orders etc. Ā
In our case, it is not practical to use the site specific order settings as we simply have too many items and warehouses. Ā
I have seen a discussion around the record level security, however, that would not work in our case.Ā
We have used warehouse locations, would we need to set up a location profile called blocked as an example and link this blocked location profile to all of the locations which link back to a warehouse.Ā WeĀ have a lot of locations and was wondering if there is an easier way of completing this. Ā
Any thoughts and suggestions would be of huge help. Ā
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Erica,
Can you tell if you are using the warehouse management features and handheld devices for warehouse operations? In that case, you can work with inventory status and with a mass update change the blocking status for warehouses, items, locations, etc.
Can you also tell the intention? Do you want to limit the options for the user to choose during order entry? If so, it is temporary or a company policy (your title mentions temporary)? In the last case, you can implement a security policy (XDS). I had created an example in the past:Ā https://dynamicspedia.com/2018/07/extensible-data-security-examples-secure-by-warehouse/

Hi,
Yes we use the warehouse features using the hand held scanners. In that case in order to block the scanners from being used, we can simply inactivate the mobile device users.
The requirement is that we need to block all users from selecting those particular sites. In order words if my site is X001 which will be WHS enabled, we have created a site Z001 which is non WHS enabled and if a sales person selects site X001 we need them to get an error so that they are forced to transact on site Z001.
I don’t see functionality that can disable site X001.

Hi,
Yes it is an option to prevent warehouse workers from using that site. However, as part of the customer services team as an example, they will use that site/warehouse when creating the sales order.
This is what we would like to temporarily prevent the users from doing so.

Hi,
Further to your suggestion, is there a way as per your suggestion to create the inventory status to block the stock but only allow the system administrators to see that inventory status?

Hi Erica,
I do understand you want to temporary disable sites and or warehouses for selection on sales orders. It would require a customization potentially including a security policy. If you had read my blog with the example, then you can implement the security policy a bit different. Then make e.g. a table where you block warehouses. The contents of that table can be used for all users instead of my example a selection of warehouses per user. In a security policy query and temporary table which is used in my example for XDS, you can put any logic to get a list what is or isn’t allowed for a user.
Also the inventory status can be controlled by adding security policies.

Hi,
Thank you very much for you input. Yes it would certainly seem as though a customization is required.
