      Hello,

When I set up a production order for part number 7xxxxx, I would like for it to automatically bring up 40 cases.

I tried setting the default order settings>inventory>minimum order quantity to 40 cases and it did what I needed for the production order. However, when I tested the inventory transfer, it also defaulted to 40 cases which is not desirable.

Any way to get around it?

      Let me know.

      Thanks,

      Sam

      Hi Sam,

If you’re using Formula items, you can set the ‘Formula size’, instead of using default order settings. Unfortunately, if you’re using BOM items, you don’t get this field.

Unfortunately, this is standard behavior. MS never separated the Inventory default settings between Mfg and Dist. so it always was for both Production and inventory transfers. If you only mfg in a warehouse/site and don’t transfer out of it, then obviously not a big issue but with most companies that’s not the case. You’d either have to give in and manually adjust one of the two transactions and deal with this shortcoming functionality or code around it to change the behavior.

      Hello everybody,

in our company we had the same problem and it was very frustrating because, if you need transfer orders to manage your supply chain structure (for example you have a multilevel network with central production or you are using some subcontractors), you can not trust in the MRP calculation. Before to go-live with AX, we asked to our consultants a customization to manage the replenishment parameters at the warehouse level and not only at the site level.

Hi Giuseppe, what version are you on? You certainly can manage transfers within warehouses, rather than just at the site. You just have to have the “Coverage planning” by warehouse checkbox turned on in the storage dimension. Sams’s problem is more of the fact that the minimum order quantity under Default order settings applies to both production and transfers but you should still be able to manage transfers between warehouses without any customization.

Andrew is correct it is one of the things that would be great to separate by order type, but transfer and production all fall under the setting of inventory and that applies to all. but remember if you are using master planning you can change the planned transfer before you firm it. the default is populating what you asked for, but it can still be overridden.

I was reffering to this problem:

Site 1 (Site Specific Order Setting: Minimum Order Quantity=5000)
WH A – production (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Production)
WH B – subcontractor1 (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer)
WH C – subcontractor2 (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer)
WH D – sales (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer)

      1)You produce the component X001 in WH A and your economic production quantity is 5000pc;
2)This component is required by a production order (assembly) assigned to the subcotractor1 where the quantity in my Formula or BOM is 1000
3)This component is required by a production order (assembly) assigned to the subcotractor2 where the quantity in my Formula or BOM is 500
4)This component is on a sales order on WH – D for 1pc
      5)The on-hand of the component X001 is 0

When the MRP runs, with the standard configuration, it creates the following planned orders:
1)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH B of 5000
2)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH C of 5000
3)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH D of 5000
4)One planned Production order of 15000

5)All the planned orders and capacity reservation that need to produce 15000 X001

To better manage this situation we set the minimum order quantity for the single warehouses
      Site 1
WH A – production (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Production; Custom Minimum Order Quantity=5000)
WH B – subcontractor1 (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer;Custom Minimum Order Quantity=1)
WH C – subcontractor2 (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer;Custom Minimum Order Quantity=1)
WH D – sales (Item Coverage Planned Order type: Transfer;Custom Minimum Order Quantity=1)
When the standard MRP runs it creates the follow planned orders:

1)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH B of 1000
2)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH C of 500
3)One planned trasfer order from WH A to WH D of 1
4)One planned Production order of 5000
5)All the planned orders and capacity reservation that need to produce 5000 X001

Can we use BOM version’s “From Qty” to solve this problem?

I think you can not solve this issue with a Formula Form Qty setup. The problem is in the planned trasfer order that does not use the Formula. If you are not forced to use a warehouse, you can create a Site and set the minumum and multiple quantities in the Site specific order setting.
