      Hello!

We are on AX 2012 R3 CU 13

After gaining a better understanding of HR Job/Positions/Titles, we have been re-aligning workers in the HR module.Ā  We have two positions that we cannot delete.Ā  The following message is returned when we try to delete one of these positions:

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  “Positions cannot be deleted while dependent Position hierarchies exist. Delete dependent Position hierarchies and try again.”

We have successfully deleted all other positions that were no longer needed.Ā  We cannot find where any connection to anything exists.Ā  There is nothing in Maintain Versions, no jobs, no titles, no employees, no history, no reports to and nothing reports to it.Ā  The only thing that shows is when ‘View In Hierarchy’ is clicked, it shows linked to ‘Organization’.

Searching the internet and AXUG discussions, this does not show up.Ā  A similar message concerning “unable to delete workers” is all that appears and the discussion there although similar, does not solve this matter.

Guidance and suggestions are always welcome!

      Hello,

In the positions that won’t delete, in the manage changes menu for those positions there should be a tab called Position hierarchies, can you see if there is something there. a lot of these records are date effective so even though nothing shows up currently there might be historical ties. SorryĀ  I don’t have an ax 2012 screenshot to show you but should be the same as D365

      Juan,

That was a quick response.Ā  Thank you.

There is not a ‘Manage Changes’ menu in AX 2012. This may be ‘Maintain Versions’ in AX 2012. The position in question is position ‘000203’. It is ‘Inactive’. There is no information in any of the fast tab fields. Under ‘Maintain Versions’, each of the following tabs show ‘This grid is empty’ for this position:

      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Position Details
      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Position Worker Assignments
      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Position Durations
      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Position Hierarchies
      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Budget Lines
      Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Labor Union

When opening ‘View In Hierarchy’ from the Position screen, this is what is returned.

These relationships may show up as Party relationships. Thus, you may be able to view & edit them by going to the Party, scrolling down to the very bottom, and reviewing the relationships there.Ā

      Tony,

Not finding it there.Ā  But it may be more due to unfamiliar with how I would find the position.Ā  All we have to go in is the Position ID of 000203.Ā  Any tiips?

My assumption that it used the Address book relationships was incorrect.
The position hierarchies have their own table, HcmPositionHierarchy. That table does have a set of valid-from valid-to fields. You may have to go into the table browser in the AOT to find the culprit. If you do – you’ll want to test removing the entry in a dev environment before attempting in Prod…

      Tony,

That helped.Ā  It was not found the the HcmPositionHierarchy (as it appears to reflect the current state hierarchy).Ā  Looking at the other HcmPosition tables led us to HcmPositionDetail where we found position 000209 had reported to position 000203 and had 2 records – an older record with a valid start/expiration dates that reported to 000203, the other was the current state which reported to another position.Ā  We then went back into the HR module in AX, opened position 000209, ‘Maintain Versions’ and clicked the ‘Position Hierarchies’ tab.Ā  This displayed the older record and the current state record we saw when looking in the table.Ā  Since we are cleaning up our structure, we ‘Removed’ the ‘Position Hierarchies’ record that reported to position 000203 and were then able to delete position 000203.

      Many thanks!
