Can anyone give me some insight into how you enter opportunities into your pipeline when you have multiple groups in your company that are teaming together to win the work? Example: We could have Engineering Services asking for our MEP group and architecture group to team with them on a project. Each of the groups want to get credit or see the work in their pipeline, so each of them enter a separate opportunity with their group’s fee. This causes us to have three opportunities in the system for the same project. The hard part in doing it this way is that Engineering Services may put the fee in with all three fees added together so we are double counting some of the fees.

Is there a good way to enter this type of an opportunity but allow each individual group get credit for the fees in their pipeline? Has anyone built anything custom to accommodate something like this?

@Sharon Whitwam I haven’t used it myself, but I remember coming across opportunity splits, when reading the documentation about Sales Forecasting.

That might be something you can use.

We have a similar scenario where we submit bids to multiple contractors who are all bidding on the same ultimate project/opportunity. Only one contractor will ultimately win the project, so we don’t want to have multiple opportunities, which would drastically overstate the global pipeline.

We created a custom entity (Bid), that has a 1=>M relationship to the opportunity. We use business rules to roll the amount of only the lowest bid into the opportunity record which gives us a more accurate view of the company wide pipeline. In your case, you would sum all of the ‘bids’ up to the opportunity.

I would think that type of model may allow you to provide some further customization for data specific to each department. You could easily extract pipelines by department using a department attribute on the custom entity.
