      Hi,Ā
Recently, I was called into a project where more than 25 account structures were used.Ā
The 25 account structures included additional advanced rule structures, which made the setup pretty difficult to follow and maintain.Ā
I am wondering if somebody has seen something similar for AX2012 or D365FO systems; that is companies using more than 20 different account structures.Ā
Would be great if I could get some feedback on that.Ā
      Many thanks,Ā
      Ludwig

This is interesting.Ā  I have also wondered about having fewer GL Account Structures with more lines per structure vs having more GL Account Structures with fewer lines per GL Account Structure.

What are the impacts (if any) on system performance?

In terms of Budget register entries, you need to specify the GL Account Structure.Ā  So, it could be easier to have fewer GL Account Structures.

      Hello Greg,Ā
I have not seen that the performance is considerably affected but to be honest this company is not a retail company with millions of data but rather operating in the construction / project business that is why we might not see any performance issues.Ā
About the budget control: Yes, they know that they can’t use it but they do their actual-budget comparison outside anyway.Ā
      Best regards,Ā
      Ludwig

      Hi Ludwig,

I do assume you are referring to an environment where this number of account structures is used in one single legal entity? Then it is indeed quite exceptional. I had done an implementation where more than 2000 legal entities were maintained in AX2012. They almost all had their own chart of accounts. When a LE had no dimensions, they could share the same account structure for “main account only”. For others the account structures were created per LE. I think in total they had 100-150 account structures.

      Hi Andre,Ā
Good to hear that. I almost got the 100-150 account structures in the three legal entities they currently use and have to think how to ‘condense’ it because maintenance is horrible and nobody really knows…Ā
      Many thanks for the feedback.Ā
      Cheers,Ā
      Ludwig

      Thanks, guys.

On a related topic…For maintenance of GL Account Structures, I have always used the User Interface / UI but that requires time and precision.Ā  There are also Data Management Data Entities (“DMDE’s”) for this but they would also require precision and I haven’t used them yet for import.Ā  Does anyone have experienced using the “DMDE’s” for import and maintenance of GL Account Structures (or Advanced Rules and Advanced Rule Structures)?Ā  If so, what were the lessons learned?
