Today, we don’t use Quality Management, however, we have a business unit that is exploring the possibility of using non-conformance functionality. I understand Quality Management needs to be turned on, however, they don’t want to use quarantine or quality orders. The purpose is strictly for internal tracking and reporting, rather than using Excel to manage the tracking and reporting.
Set-up:
Quarantine and Quality number sequences will not be assigned
NonConformance number sequence assigned
Will create a wide variety of Problem Types
Are there financial impacts that we need to be aware of if we simply want to use non-conformances for reporting purposes?
Thank you for your responses in advance!

No there is no financial impact based on your described . If you were using quality orders and changing statuses of inventory based on the quality order results there might be financial impacts but again there would be no GL postings. In your example of just using non-conformance no impact at all. You might want to look at corrective actions that you can preform with non-conformance functionality.

That is exactly how we use the non-conformance in quality management. We use the function more to guide us to what needs to be trained better, or processes that need to be reviewed. We are a manufacturing facility, and have multiple instances that we want to document a finding. We use the system to document any internal issues. If the fault can be named, it is named, if not, it is still documented to future improvement if patterns can be found. Since we are using it for documenting an incident, to us, the most important factor is that we can see the impact on a per order basis. So, we have not had a need to use the other function of quality management at this time.
We do like the approval process in non-conformances. We have supervisors review all non-conformances every week and approve them as being breaks in process by a team member if appropriate. This is what guides our training and process review schedules.
