We are running AX 2012 R3 and we have a situation where we would like a component that is consumed on multiple BOM’s to be consumed from more than one location depending on what item is being produced.

Right now the location that the raw materials and components are being consumed from is defined on the resource group.Ā  We are wondering if there is any way to define more than 1 input location on the resource group.

The end result that we would like to see is that when Product A is produced, it consumes Component A from Location A and when Product B is produced it consumes Component A from Location B.

      Any help/advice is appreciated.Ā  Thanks!

?You can specify an input location for the resource on the link between resource and resource group.Ā  That allows you to have an input location at a lower level than the resource group.Ā  I know that warehouse management uses that input location when it generates the picking work for a production order.Ā  I’m not entirely sure what happens when you are not using warehouse management to do your picking.

      Hello Brandon,

Depending on which resource group you choose , you can define more than one input location to the resource group. Once you choose the group you want, on the fast tabs to the right, there should beĀ  ResourcesĀ tab. There you can add multiple resources and their input locations. But, you cannot assign an operations resource to two different resource groups at the same time.

Not sure how your set up is, i’d check my routes and operation numbers, too. Do you have combo routes? This will allow component A to be delivered to A or B.

      Brandon,

As Kathy stated if you’re using different resources you can have different input locations for the resources by assigning them on the resource section of the resource group.Ā  If you’re using advanced warehousing you can also have the picking happen from different locations in the warehouse but put to the same input location for consumption (you could use the available on location functionality for this if you want to consume right away).
