      Hello,

We don’t know how to manage goods in the warehouse, when they are packaged for a specific sales order.Ā  Do you also face this issue and how do you cope with sales order picking?

We make to order: production orders are linked to a specific sales order line.Ā  Packaging and labeling is done just after the production process.

When production is finished, we store the goods until they are picked for shipping.Ā  But the goods being “anonymous”, they are not targeted by the picking work.

Do you know of a way to tell the system “this has been produced towards a specific sales order.Ā  When picking for this sales order, come and pick them and not just any item with the same item number”.

If you do, I’d be super grateful for you to explain the steps you follow in the production process (or is it on the sales order? Or both?).

      Many thanks!

Hi Alexandra, is it known at time of order entry? You can create a Production order directly from a sales order line which would hard allocate that order to the sales order. Additionally, if using Flexible reservation hierarchy, you could reserve a specific batch or license plate to a sales order line to force fulfillment from that pallet.

      Hi
Creating a Using unique released product variant with e.g. Configuration dimension, on the sales order line will create a demand for exactly that specific released productt variant.

      Hello Lars,
Thanks for your suggestions, it’s a good idea, but maybe overkill in my case.
That would require sales to go and create product variants, which doesn’t sound right.Ā  And it’s not actual variants we need to manage here, rather something like a “reserved stock”.
Many thanks for this idea, I’ll keep it in a corner of my head.

      Hi Andrew,

      Thanks for your support!

This is known at the time of order entry indeed.
I might be wrong, cause I don’t get all the subtlety around marking and reservation, but creating a production order from a sales order would have the same result as firming a planned production order with marking?Ā  I already have a sales order referenced on the production order with my current way of working, if that is what you mean.Ā  Is it?

you could reserve a specific batch or license plate to a sales order line to force fulfillment from that pallet” –> this is exactly what I’m after!Ā  I didn’t know about flexible reservation hierarchy.Ā  I’ve found some MS documentation and it looks very interesting.
If you can give some extra details on how to use it that would be awesome.
Anyways thanks a lot for pointing me in that direction.

      Hi Alexandra,Ā
Flexible reservation hierarchy allows a user to override how the standard reservations work with Warehouse management. Without using this setting, you have Batch numbers either above or below the location in a reservation hierarchy. When it’s below, the system does not reserve a specific batch during reservation, but directs the user where to pick based on Location Directive settings. If the location has multiple batches, the user could scan any of them which is acceptable. IF a sales person or user manually reserved a batch number against a sales order line, you’d get a message telling you that you can no longer use WMS picking work for that order line because you overrode the setup of the item and you must instead use a traditional picking list to fulfill it. If the batch is setup above the location in the Reservation hierarchy, the system reserves a specific batch number and directs the user to pick that batch.Ā
Flexible reservation hierarchies let you cater for scenarios where you only need to SOMETIMES reserve specific batches or license plates, rather than always reserving. In these cases, you can manually or automatically reserve a specific batch to the sales order line andĀ  still generate work in WMS to pick and fulfill against. Hope that is helpful, please let me know if you have further questions or need additional details.

      Alexandra,

What you glean from Andrew is correct.Ā  Creating a production order from a sales order line marks the production order to that sales order.Ā  To accomplish this, select the sales order line, click the ‘Product and Supply’ (which is above the orders lines), select ‘New’ then ‘Production Order’.Ā  The form to create a Production Order is returned.

      Hope this helps!

Hi Alexandra, I’ll try to summarize. I was going to include the same link it seems you have already found regarding the flexible reservation hierarchy. The main piece is that you can reserve a specific batch or license plate and present that to the user during the WMS picking process. Prior to that feature, if your Reservation hierarchy was set to have batch or license plate below the location and then you manually reserved a batch number, you could not execute WMS Picking work, you had to process the line using non Warehouse management picking lists and packing slips.Ā
Here’s a couple videos that walk through the setup and process a bit in lieu of creating my own, I hope they are helpful:

      Hi Andrew,

      That is very helpful.

Many, many thanks for your very good answer, and also for the video.Ā  I’ll try and test.

      Hi,

I’m still searching for a solution – I’m sure there must be something out there to enable correct warehouse processes when making to order šŸ™‚

I need something to connect the sales order picking with the order which has been produced.Ā  Some kind of batch or license plate, and a good way to implement it (involving limiting manual work from sales or production).

Please share if you have any such experience or idea about that.
