Hi there,
Can someone assist me in preferably providing a list, if not determining how to find a list of D365FO data entities relating to financial reporting.
I am required to offer a list of robust financial reports to a new client usingĀ D365FO prior to engagement. I have no visibility of what tables i have to select from.Ā
If i have a list then i can figure out what i can offer based on the availability.Thank you in advance
Jarrod

Hi Jarrod
I don’t know any way to find entities related to Financial Reporting, the one I use for a GL transaction dump is called “General Journal Account Entry”.
Thanks,Ā

Thank you kindly for your reply.
I’ve since found this page which where i can download what appears to be all of the structures
https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/UK/AX/downloads/reports/axtechrefrep
The zip file is located here
https://mbs.microsoft.com/files/public/CS/AX/TechnicalReferenceReports_V10_0_2.zip
This gives me some good insights into what im looking for.Ā

Hi Jarrod,So short answer – there are no data entities you can access using DataManagement or Excel Add-In tools.Ā However within the entity store in system administration->Set up there are a number of different entites based around the old 2012 cubes (flattened). Recommend looking into the BudgetvLedger activity measure/Ā Financial reporting transaction data version 2. These entities are exposed to PowerBI and used in the workspace analytics.
Your other option is good old management reporter oops sorry “Financial Reporting” to give it it’s new name. Lot’s of standard reports in there also.

Based on experience, Management Reporter 2012 (renamed Financial Reports in D365) is the best financial reporting tool. It is easy to use and powerful once you have mastered the basics which are similar to most legacyĀ financial report writers but now has an Excel style interface. It is just a re-write of the old Frx product used extensively by SAP, Oracle, AX, etc. There is no need for standard templates, just create some basic column and row layouts which you can mix and match, and re-use. When migrating from AX 2009 to D365, you can do a partial migration of existing reports then patch the coding as there are structural changes in the D365 GL chart of accounts.
If you use an Excel Add-in, it will be slow because they all interrogate the database one cell at a time. That said, we do useĀ an Excel Add-in for certain tasks like inventory planning to do clever stuff like re-ordering based on only full rolls of flooring products thereby ignoring the partial (cut) rolls from “available” stock on hand.
The bestĀ Excel Add-in is Atlas XL which we have used for 10 years

Hi Ian,
Thanks for mentioning Atlas. You mention the database being interrogated one cell at a time. I just wanted to reach out to make sure you are using a cache in your reporting to overcome this issue. If all of your cells are direct queries to AX/D365 they will get the data on cell a time. If you use a cache Atlas can go grab all the data you need in a single query, then populate the cells based on the data held in memory…much, much faster.
It looks like you are on Atlas 6.2. I’d recommend looking at the latest version, Atlas 6.7, when you have a chance. We’ve added a utility that will convert existing reports to be cache-based, so you can get that big performance gain without having to do a bunch of report redesign. With that version you also get file based caching with incremental updates, for another performance gain.
I’m in the US in Minnesota so time-zone math would be a bit tricky for you and I to jump on a Webex, but email me at jason.carter@insightsoftware.com and I can get you on touch with the right people in your region.
Regards,
Jason
