      Hello,

Is there a way to limit the serial numbers that can be picked/issued to a production order?

      Scenario:

For shop order A, I want only raw materials that have a serial number containing “ABCD” to be used.
For shop Order B, I want only raw materials that have a serial number containing “XYZ” to be used.

      Hi William,

As a work around you can define a separate production warehouse per shop floor can be attached to the BOM Lines or Route Resource group input warehouse can be given – this warehouse could be a virtual one..

Respective Serial number that are to be consumed for the shop floor to be transferred via transfer order/journal from Raw material warehouse to the Production warehouse say A and B

It’s only a suggestion that may work, still in this there could be practical operational issues as well..

      Regards,

could you no also force a physical reservation for each of the production orders once it is firmed and scheduled?

I’m going to make an assumption here, that in each case the item number of the raw material is the same.

That being the case there isn’t a great way to control which Serial Number is used.   You can specify a specific serial number on the Production Order BOM,  but that is really just a suggestion.  Depending on how you are posting your journals you could use any serial which is on-hand(or one that isn’t if your allowing negatives).

The other option is to look into Batch tracking to control this, and specify the batch on the Production BOM.  Again though it would just be a guide, and you would need to maintain batches in inventory.
